July Presidents Report

Happy Fair Season!

It's a busy time with county and state fairs, and I hope your broadcasts from the fairs are great! It's also been a busy time with severe weather for many, and while it's tough to report on our loyal listeners with damage, it’s during severe weather coverage that our stations shine! On July 5, we had five tornadoes in our listening area causing extensive damage. There have been many tornado outbreaks in Central Minnesota and over 11 inches of rain fall earlier in the month in Northern Wisconsin, so it has been a busy time for many of our NAFB broadcasters.

This week the NAFB Board is meeting in Milwaukee, WI for our annual summer board meeting and Agribusiness Luncheon. The NAFB staff has worked hard to bring us a great Agribusiness Luncheon! This year we will be having a panel discussion on Biotech Labeling...Across the Food Chain featuring Steve Armstrong from Campbell Soup Company, Mike Gruber, Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs with the Grocery Manufacturers Association and Shawn Stevens a founding member of the Food Industry Counsel LLC. We are expecting over 50 people in attendance, including members of DFA, DMI and some of the largest advertising agencies in the Milwaukee area. Be watching the News Service for interviews with the panelist.

If you have not already done so, please make sure your station profiles for the NAFB Planner are complete! The planner has become very popular with many of the Allied Industry Council members. Earlier this month, I had one of my clients at the station to record some new commercials, and she had a colleague with her. The colleague was very impressed with what my client did at our station and indicated he was interested in doing the same back in his home state. So I pulled up the planner, we picked the counties he served, and when I went to click on the NAFB station that would be perfect for him, there was nothing! I ended up having to call Tom Brand just to get the contact information. It was very uncomfortable, to say the least, so please get your station profiles up to date if you have not done so, and if you need help, please call Mindy at the office.

This month's video with Matt Middendorp is back and, Matt and I talk about ways to find and sell sponsorships for your event travels. If you have a topic that you would like Matt to discuss, please drop me an email or give me a call! Here is the link to this month's video.

As always, if you have any ideas or questions, please give me a call or drop me an email! Have a great July!
