NAFB Hunger Initiative
Of the 47 million Americans who are food insecure, 17 million of those are children.
And while hunger is a problem in every part of the United States, it's more common in rural areas. In fact, rural areas comprise less than two-thirds of all U.S. counties, but 9 out of 10 counties with the highest food insecurity rates are rural.
That's why NAFB is partnering with Feeding America to help provide food and resources for people living in rural communities – particularly children. Every child needs nutritious food to thrive, and so many people across America are working hard to bring meals home to their families.
We want to help – and make a difference.
Farm broadcasting has long been a connector with farmers, ranchers and rural communities. Today, through the power and reach of farm broadcasters and others in our NAFB community, we're raising awareness of this crisis in rural America. Our member stations and networks are getting the word out through public service announcements (PSAs) and other outreach to send people to a dedicated Feeding America donation site, where proceeds go directly to benefit those who need it most in America's hometowns.
Here's how you can help:
- Visit the NAFB Hunger page at Feeding America for more information and to donate. Your donation will be directed to a food bank in YOUR local community.
- If you're a broadcaster, take advantage of the PSAs that we have developed for you to use in your programming to increase awareness among your listeners.
- For everyone, help us get the word out to visit Feeding America to help rural America!
