Kreifels Starts Small Business

KREIFELS STARTS SMALL BUSINESS – Madison Kreifels, a senior at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, owns InfoFilm, a communications business she started in college.

Kreifels is a student member of NAFB, and she was a recipient of a NAFB Foundation scholarship in 2023. She grew up in the agricultural industry.

“My dad was an agricultural education teacher, so I was involved in the industry from an early age,” Kreifels said. “In seventh grade, I joined FFA and applied for a grant to start my own business. I created a direct-to-consumer sweet corn business, where I grew and harvested sweet corn to sell to people in my hometown.”

She spent six years selling sweet corn for her FFA project and learned many valuable lessons.

“Selling sweet corn in front of Dollar General teaches you about hard work and communicating with people about how the sweet corn was grown,” Kreifels said. “I discovered that I loved telling people the story about how their food was grown, and I decided to major in agricultural communications in college.”

She launched InfoFilm during the fall of 2023 to pursue her passion after graduation.

“I knew I was passionate about agriculture, entrepreneurship, and storytelling,” Kreifels said. “I wanted a unique career after college, so I took an entrepreneurship class focused on customer discovery. I realized I could start my own business to create my desired career.”

She started by interviewing over 100 producers to investigate their marketing challenges and what they needed help with. She discovered that most of them struggled with video.

“When I started, I focused on agricultural videography to showcase the story behind agriculture, and I had a lot of success with that,” Kreifels said. “I started getting more and more clients through word-of-mouth, and I decided to turn it into a business. I added branding, photography, and social media management for producers.”

Her favorite thing about the agricultural communications field is the community.

“Agriculture is the backbone of our world, and we have such generous, humble people,” Kreifels said. “The fact that I work with people like that every day is incredible and motivating for me as I continue to grow my business.”
