News from the National Association of Broadcasters

Legislation promoting new performance royalties for FM and AM radio is currently being considered in Congress, and the National Association of Broadcasters is on the offensive pushing back against new fees and royalties for radio broadcasters. The Local Radio Freedom Act is a bipartisan resolution opposing "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge" on local broadcast radio stations. Members of Congress co-sponsoring the resolution recognize the free promotional airplay broadcast radio provides for emerging and established musicians that translates into record and merchandise sales, concert attendance and free publicity. The resolution currently has 194 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives and 18 in the Senate. For more information please visit www.NoPerformanceTax.org and www.FreeRadioAlliance.org.
