Spencer Chase of Agri-Pulse discussed his involvement in NAFB and the benefits his membership has offered at the 73rd NAFB Convention.
Spencer explained he became a student member of NAFB at the behest of this employer to help him gain experience and insight from seasoned professionals as he began his career as a broadcaster.
“The NAFB membership has given me a lot of mentoring. It’s given me access to a lot of folks that are just willing to give me advice,” Chase said.
Chase is employed at the Washington D.C. Agri-Pulse office. He said he arrives at his workplace at 9 a.m. and reads through world news. He will often have conference calls or travel to Capitol Hill for hearings.
“Sometimes, a press release will come out that I'll chase down and usually spend the morning doing a lot of kind of news gathering, and then in the afternoon I try to produce the content,” Chase said. “That's when I try and finish up any stories I've been working on.”

Chase is a multi-platform journalist. He explained that he collects information he many not use in the story he is working on at the time, but can use later to tell a bigger and more complete story.
“We try to make sure that we're covering the story from all angles,” Chase said. “Being a writer and a broadcaster enables me to do that.”
