Erin Anderson joined the Brownfield Ag staff as an anchor/reporter on April 29.
The Illinois native attended Danville Area Community College to obtain an associate of arts degree. She then transferred to Purdue University and graduated with her bachelor's degree in agricultural communications in May 2024.
During college, she interned for a local radio station, where she was introduced to farm broadcasting. She fell in love with Indiana while at Purdue, so she combined that with her newfound passion for farm broadcasting.
“I interned for a radio station for two summers, and I knew I loved farm broadcasting,” Anderson said. “I decided to pursue a different kind of internship to be 100 percent sure that I wanted a career in farm broadcasting, so I did a corporate communications internship with GROWMARK. I learned so much and enjoyed my time there, but I missed being on air.”
In her new position, she is responsible for producing three newscasts each day.
“I also cover national and regional news in Ohio and Indiana, so I spend much of my day interviewing people on the phone,” Anderson said. “I travel throughout Ohio and Indiana talking to farmers about what’s happening on their operations.”
Anderson’s favorite part is advocating for agriculture.
“I love telling the farmer's story through newscasts, and I get to talk with them about what’s happening across the nation and in my territory,” Anderson said. “It’s cool to combine my passions and put it on the air.”
