“Jay Gould was absolutely iconic as the WOWO farm director for about 34 years and really put WOWO on the map as one of the premier farm stations in the country during those years,” reports Rob Winters (WOWO, Fort Wayne, IN). Gould was the creator of the original farm show back in the early ‘30s called The Little Red Barn. The show had a catchy musical theme that was originally performed live in the studio.

Mark Oppold reports, “It’s always great to have visitors in our RFD-TV studios, but we’re always proud to have National FFA Officers visit.” Pictured with NAFB members, Janet Adkison, Marlin Bohling and Mark Oppold, are National FFA Secretary Nick Baker and National Eastern Region Vice President Sydney Snider.

During the recent NAFB Board of Directors Meeting in Washington D.C. the board approved Honorary NAFB Membership to two individuals who have contributed greatly to the business of Farm Broadcasting, and the U.S. agriculture industry. We welcome former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture 1989-1991, Clayton Yuetter and  retired President and CEO of Learfield Communications, Clyde Lear.

Greetings from the childhood home of Laura Ingells Wilder! I hope spring planting has been going well for your producers.

Your NAFB staff has had a busy few months since we last visited. In April, NAFB staff, along with other NAFB broadcasters attended the annual NAMA Convention in Kansas City. Staff was very busy talking with agricultural marketers about the NAFB Research, and there is excitement among agri-marketers about the research and what it means for upcoming media buys. If you have any questions about the research or how to go about using it at your shop, please call Mindy at the NAFB Office.

Farming is a 24/7 job. Working from sunup to sundown, farmers rely on multiple forms of communications to keep them informed, and up-to-date with the industry. Farm broadcasting is one of the multiple ways farmers, and ranchers stay connected. Radio continues to be widely used by farmers in all age ranges, as they seek out information that matters to their operation.
