AgNet West marked its fifth anniversary of service provided to the California agriculture industry on July 12, 2017. The network started with 12 stations and has grown to include 33 radio stations throughout the state, reporting ag news from Shasta all the way down to Imperial County. Gary Cooper is the principal founder and President of AgNet Media, the parent organization of AgNet West.
The newest member of the Red River Farm Network (Grand Forks, ND) farm broadcaster Megan Ternquist began her first week with the network July 24 in Grand Forks. “Megan is a welcome addition and will be a huge asset to our team,” said Red River Farm Network (RRFN) President Don Wick.
At his Montana Ag Summit on June 1 in Great Falls, MT, U.S. Senator Steve Daines honored former three-term U.S. Senator and Farm Broadcaster, the late Conrad Burns, by naming a special new award after him. Before about 700 attendees, Senator Daines presented his first-ever Conrad Burns Ag Technology Award, saying that throughout his life “Senator Conrad Burns was an advocate for technology to bring connectivity to Montana.
On June 21, the Wisconsin State Assembly recognized Brian Winnekins (WRDN, Durand, WI) for his election to serve as President of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting for the 2016 term. Winnekins owns and operates WRDN, 1430 AM, Reel Country, and his station has worked hard to promote local agriculture, an $88 billion dollar per year industry in Wisconsin.
One of the greatest college football rivalries pits Ohio State University against University of Michigan, but NAFB member Ty Higgins, farm broadcaster with The Ohio Ag Net (Columbus, OH), recently took that rivalry to a new level.

Keith Kirkpatrick, who at 92 still broadcasts a weekly program on WHO (Des Moines, IA), marks his 65th year as an NAFB member this year. He attended his first NAFB convention in Chicago in 1952. His first of many committee assignments was Resolutions.
2002 NAFB President COLLEEN CALLAHAN BURNS was one of three Distinguished Service Award recipients honored by the University of Illinois at the 2017 Commencement activities in May. Jerry Passer (Brownfield Network, Cedar Rapids, IA) came out of retirement in October 2002, signing a six-month agreement to cover livestock markets for Brownfield. Now, nearly 15 years later, the veteran farm broadcaster is hanging up his microphone at the end of June.
